What to wear with a bay horse?
what to wear with a bay horse?
If youβre lucky enough to own a stunning bay and are wondering what to wear to compliment them at your session, read no further! Here are my top tips for colour matching your bay beauty -
Colour works great with bays! While you have to be careful matching colours with a chestnut or palomino, bays, and especially dark bays, pair well with colours. Sticking with jewel tones is a safe bet, deep reds, navy, emerald green and pinks or purples are all safe bets.
Consider your horseβs individual shade. There are fifty shades of bay out there and each one is different. Darker bays look better with colour, while more vibrant bays look better with neutral colours, pastels or monochrome shades.
Blue, blue and more blue. Almost all bays look good in blue, though maybe not every shade but it is a safe place to start.
Know what vibe you are going for. Deeper jewel tones will give you an elegant and luxurious feel, while light pastel colours will give you a soft and romantic vibe.
Avoid βneonβ colours, such as vibrant green, orange, pink or yellow. These can clash with the orange hues in the bay coat.
As you can see in the above images, neutral shades and cooler tones both pair great with these darker bays! The neutral tones make for a soft and romantic feel, also highlighting instead of distracting from the beautiful green foliage. In contrast, wearing a cooler-toned outfit will bring out the orange undertones in your bay horseβs coat and really make them pop! Below are a few more examples of a beautiful soft blue against a dark bay coat.
Pairing dark colours, such as navy or black can also work beautifully with any shade of pay horse, as seen above! These colour choices create a dramatic and elegant look.
Similar to above, bays also look wonderful paired with a deep maroon, especially if they are a more red bay! This colour can bring out their own red undertones and looks great with equestrian or equestrian casual outfits. It is also perfect for winter photos or the holiday season and really pops against a white, or lighter coloured background!
Finally, a variety of pastel tones will work with most bay horses! Any of these softer colours will probably work with your horse, highlighting different undertones in their coat depending on their shade and what colour you wear. Bay horses really are chameleons and can work with many many colours! I provide all these details and so much more to my clients when you book a session with me!
