The new normal

It has officially been 50 days since I started social distancing and my life’s normal came to a halt. It’s a little hard to believe that it’s been that long, but somehow also feels like it’s been much longer. I suppose that is a side effect of every day feeling like the last and my concept of time going off the rails. None the less, I’ve traded one normal for another and thought I would give you a look into what the new normal looks like!

My work as a photographer certainly hasn’t stopped and I spend a lot of the day sitting at my desk, working on blogs, editing, emails and posting content. I usually try and save this work until the end of the day, since the days are way too beautiful to be stuck inside! During the day, I’ve been spending a lot of time gardening and cleaning out my garage. It’s hard and grungy work but I get to be out in the sunshine, so I’ve been really enjoying it. On the days when the weather is not so cooperative, my family and I work on puzzles and I enjoy listening to music and podcasts. We’ve been playing some board games too, including one called Probe which came out in the 1960’s and I’m sure has since been discontinued.

I’m lucky enough to still get to see my horse, although I’ve been limiting it as much as possible to avoid exposure. When I do go out, I’ve been riding outside and going on trail rides. It has been really refreshing to spend so much time outdoors and just riding for fun! We even went for a gallop in the snow back in March!

All in all, my days are mostly spent cuddling with my animals, enjoying the sunshine and trying new things, like watercolour painting and growing tomatoes inside. Kelliher(our beloved kitty cat) has been smothered with love lately and I don’t think he is too happy about it. He is at the vet’s right now since he got into a poisonous plant and I can’t wait to have him back home, although I’m not sure he feels the same!

I’m not exactly itching for life to get back to “normal” but I certainly can’t wait to get back behind the camera, I think that’s what I have been missing the most in this last 2 months! I hope everyone’s self-isolation has been as enjoyable as mine, even if you may be starting to go a bit stir-crazy. This whole time is making me realize that maybe there is no normal in life, and we just adjust to whatever is thrown our way and consider it to be normal. Let me know in the comments what your “normal” has been looking like!
