Horse & Rider Session // Sheilagh & Guinness

A beautiful evening in late May. The trees have brand new spring leaves on them and the entire landscape sings with sounds of Spring. Firehorse Stables is my first stop on my trip to Edmonton and I am greeted by Sheilagh who is delightfully warm and friendly. It is the most perfect evening to capture her bond with Guinness and her dog Thor. As the sunshine filtered through the bright green trees I got to learn about both of her beautiful animals and the connection they shared.

While I wouldn’t describe Thor and Guinness as best of friends, it was clear they had a sweet connection and more than tolerated one another. I can only imagine them trotting alongside one another on one of their weekly trail rides, although based on Thor’s energy level it might be more of a full throttle gallop! We had plenty of laughs as the little black bur raced around us all evening, clearly not understanding the “stand still” part of a photoshoot! Guinness did his best to model good behaviour for his canine sibling and was a delight to work with, just as he had been at our last session together! Sheilagh expressed that what she loved most about Guinness was his work ethic and personality, and the trust that they had built together. She described him as having a kind and gentle soul, which was incredibly obvious in his soft eye and gentle demeanor.

Capturing this little fur family was like capturing the essence of loving animals; the chaos, the joy, the hard work and the endless smiles and laughter! It is truly a thing of beauty.

“He is my dream horse.” - Sheilagh
