Horse & Rider Session // Erin, Phoenix & Spider

A beautiful evening in late May. The trees have brand new spring leaves on them and the entire landscape sings with sounds of Spring. Firehorse Stables is my first stop on my trip to Edmonton and my second session of the evening was with two handsome chestnut geldings, a pair of lively huskies and the beautiful Erin, with moral support and an extra pair of hands from her husband! And with that many animals to wrangle, the extra pair of hands was more than welcome!

Spider is old and seasoned gelding, now retired and living the pampered life after being Erin’s loyal companion for over a decade. Her new and younger gelding Phoenix is currently being taken up through the ranks as eventers. If you know nothing about eventing or eventers, let me tell you a few things, they are known to be brave, with a healthy does of fearlessness and a pinch of crazy (in the best way! You have to be a little bit nuts to gallop your horse full tilt at solid fences on whatever terrain is available), with an absolute love and devotion to their horses (I’m speaking from experience when I say these things). It was obvious from our session that Erin is a strong, devoted horse woman who adores her horses but also the sport of eventing, it was clear that both she and Phoenix were formidable athletes, and that Spider had well earned his retirement.

It was a delight to work with this little family and all the fur members! I’ll never refuse a handsome pair of 🍊 geldings in front of my camera!
