Charlotte & Scooter
I never get tired of having Charlotte and Scooter in front of the camera. This pair is one that I've gotten to know over the 2019 year and appreciate their close and friendly bond. Charlotte and I had been trying to organize a day for portraits for a few months and I was excited when we finally found a time for her portraits. I couldn't wait to capture more beautiful moments of her and the handsome Scooter!
I arrived at the barn in the late afternoon, the sun already about to set now that daylight savings had passed. Somehow I entered into a barn that was even more impressive and luxurious than Carousel Ridge. It never gets old walking into beautiful barns. I quickly found Scooter in the cross-ties and Charlotte getting him ready. I held off on giving Scooter any mints yet, as I knew that would only lead to his adorable tongue sucking, which was cute but looked a little funny on camera.
Quickly we headed outside to catch the beautiful golden light. Charlotte had Scooter's cooler in hand, worried about him being cold, as any caring friend would be. It was a joy to capture images of the pair in a more relaxed setting, away from the hustle and bustle of shows. It was not so joyful to be out in the snow and soon we were back inside to give us all the chance to warm up.
Inside Charlotte and I chatted about Scooter's recent health scare and how he was now coming back into work. It was as clear as ever of Charlotte's deep care for her equine partner and that him being healthy and happy was the most important thing. When we went back outside, she was so careful about watching him to see if he was too cold and being very considerate of how deep we took him in the snow. Getting to capture these quiet moments between Charlotte and Scooter was such an honour. It is easy to forget what goes on behind the scenes in a competitive team, but Charlotte is just a horse girl like any other and there is something very beautiful in the ordinariness of their extraordinary partnership.
