To braid or not to braid, that is the question.
With summer very nearly upon us, it is time to book those equine portrait sessions! We are only blessed with a few short months here when the horses aren’t major fuzz balls, so you won’t want to miss the opportunity of your equine looking their best. But after booking your session, you might be thinking about how best to prepare your horse. The question of what to do with those beautiful locks will probably be one of the first things that comes to mind.
First things first, your horse will look stunning regardless of how you choose to prepare their mane. Equine Portrait sessions are all about capturing your horse at their best and I will achieve this with or without braids.
Braiding (or not) is all about capturing a specific aesthetic in your images. Do you want clean and sleek or ethereal and wild?
you should braid if
• Your horse has a beautiful neck that you want to show off
• You love a detailed braid shot
• You have a hunter or dressage horse
you should leave it natural if
• Your horse has a killer mane (down to the floor, hair goals)
• You ride western
• Your horse’s neck isn’t quite as muscular as you’d like (no judgment here, my horse always looks like a llama!)
• You aren’t confident in your braiding skills and don’t know someone who is an excellent braider
