Horse & Rider Session // Justine & Tiffany

There is just something about golden hour fall horse & rider portraits that I will never get tired of. The sun is finally setting at a reasonable hour (I know we are all wishing for longer days right now but photographing portraits until 10 pm in the summer is just a bit nuts!) and the golden foliage is the most perfect backdrop. This was the setting on the day of Justine and Tiffany’s horse & rider session.

Justine had a delightful positive energy and a radiating smile that never left her face. Tiffany was a little unsure what the whole point of this evening adventure was but Justine never let her antics get to her and worked effortlessly with the mare. My biggest concern with slightly anxious horses is that it will impact the rider, since I can almost always get great shots no matter what the horse is doing but it is when the rider loses their smile and positivity for the experience that my job becomes a bit harder. I never had to worry about this with Justine and Tiffany! Justine worked with Tiffany and let the mare do her own thing, smiling and laughing while we worked in some different poses. She was truly up for anything, even testing her confidence with a bareback walk around the grass ring! I think horse riding can be a much easier sport for the young and fearless, I know I did things at 12 without a care in the world that I wouldn’t even dream of doing these days, but I think any young equestrian can look at a woman like Justine and hope that we are still as confident, happy and enjoying our time in the saddle (or bareback) as she is when we get to that time in our lives!

“I spent ten years supporting my daughter's equestrian dreams and spent many hours at the barn. I decided it was time to get my own horse and I found Tiffany, in our shared underachiever ambitions, we are a perfect match. We share a great bond and as my confidence has improved her faith in me has grown.”
